The U.S. Coast Guard has the responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of all
Aids to Navigation on the Waterways of the U.S. This responsibility is effected in
conjunction with other Federal Government agencies, State and Local Government elements and
Private entities. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, in its overall supplemental supporting role, provides specifically authorized assistance to the Coast Guard in its Aids to Navigation missions.This Auxiliary support effort is provided through the Aids to Navigation and Chart Updating(ATON/CU) Program.
In order for Auxiliary members to participate in the ATON/CU Program they must have a general knowledge of the responsibilities of the Auxiliary in the conduct of the program.
